Today I‘ m going to talk about a topic which I explained to people at work over and over again for the last few years. So this is a favorite topic of mine! I preach people to take care of their data, to take care about how you store it and how you transport it.
So having multiple USB-Stick‘ s and disc‘ s circulating privately and for business is always a risk. Especially Stick‘ s are easy to lose and so is the data on them. So a few years ago I started encrypting with Open Source Software which in the days was called „Truecrypt“ which was discontinued in 2014. After that there has been a fork called „Veracrypt“ who basically does the same thing and is still updated. Honestly, it‘ s an excellent tool I still trust my precious data too, but I have been using another tool for the last years on a daily basis, because it‘ s even simpler to use.
I‘ m talking of „Microsoft Bitlocker“ who was introduced with Windows Vista and who since then made it‘ s way into my daily work due to the fact that my employer uses Windows. Once you have your stick encrypted, which can be done on any Windows 10 Pro you can use it on any Windows 10 & 7 machine with simply sticking it into and entering the Code.
So maybe you should have a look into these options. Using Veracrypt is a bit more complicated but having access to Bitlocker should simplify the things at least for Windows users.
You can find Veracrypt here and a good How to guide for Bitlocker here.
