If you talk about OSINT, and if you look it up on Google, the first page which is not Wikipedia, you get to a page called „Intel Techniques“ from a guy called Michael Bazzell. So in the last few years he did maintain the completest collection of tools and hints how you should or could proceed in the OSINT world. I wouldn’t call him a legend, because I think he’s quiet a humble guy, but I’ve been using his tools and books for the last few years so I look up to him. My respect for what he did build.
But with fame comes the dark side… During the last week he took down all his tools and his whole collection! Why? Because his server was attacked by increasing DDOS attacks since May. He was finally forced to take down the tools, because these were the main target of the attacks.
They are finally not available anymore on the free side of his page, but honestly I have to agree, that I do fully understand the issues he ran into and mainly the consequences he took.
My respect for the work he did during the last years, and I hope that his site quickly gets back on its feet and stays some kind of institution on our topics!
Tune in to his Podcast, which will be remaining as it did before!
Keep up your good work! Even people from the other part of the world look up to you! I’ve found your book on various desks of security Ninja’s and I’ve been in the business for some time! More than 20 years of internet stories and more than a decade in the security business make me somehow a guy who knows what he’s talking about…
